GUSTUX is a small membership for people who travel deliberately. Here's what's inside, and what you do with it.
The application is the door. Tell us how you travel, what you've seen, what you'd add. Two editors read every application end to end — no algorithm.
You'll hear back by email: a yes, a follow-up question, or a "not yet, but try again." It usually takes a week or two.
The GUSTUX Journal is what's in your pocket. A real journal with entries, photos, and notes. A private atlas of where you've been. A route planner for what's next. A cost archive across 255 cities, kept current by members in the field.
Everything lives in your account. Nothing is sold to advertisers. Sync across your phone and laptop. Export at any time.
GUSTUX publishes a magazine. Cover features, criticism with teeth, profiles of people worth knowing, briefings on what just changed in the field — and the lists, the cultural rankings that get talked about.
The Magazine is the house speaking. It is read, not browsed.
Ask a question, get an answer from someone who was on that road last week. Members talk to each other in the Hall — a chat space organised by place and topic, not algorithms.
The membership stays small on purpose. Smaller means the chat actually works.
A few times a year, the house hosts adventures — small group expeditions led by members or trusted guides. A Himalayan crossing. A workshop in Istanbul. A pearl dive in the Mergui. Application required.
And if you can write or photograph: contributors are paid for pieces that run in The Magazine. Pitches come from the editorial floor; pay is set per piece and published openly.
Filling it out: 15–25 minutes. Hearing back: usually a week or two. We read in batches and don't rush.
You can apply again any time. We'll often tell you why, so the next application is sharper. We're not gatekeeping for the sake of it — we're keeping the group small enough that the chat is useful.
No. We don't book flights, hotels, or trips for you. The Journal App helps you plan; The Magazine helps you decide; the Hall helps you ask. The execution is yours.
There's a membership fee, with a few tiers, and a free reader tier that gives you The Magazine without the app or the Hall. Pricing is on the membership page.
You do. Your journal, your photos, your routes — all yours. Export at any time. We never sell to advertisers; we don't run any. The membership fee is the whole revenue model.
Yes, any time. Export your data first; we'll keep a tombstone of your contributions to The Magazine if you've filed any (with your permission), and the rest goes.
15–25 minutes. Read by hand. A reply within a week or two.
